June Already???

So as you may have noticed I have been a litttle absent from the blog world lately. The last couple of months have been spent traveling, visiting family and trying to get ready for our little one to join our family! I am here to make no promises {especially since becoming a new mom will be a bit time consuming} but I will try a make more of an effort to share the things that inspire me and not leave you hangin for so long!

*Sorry for the bad photo quality...nothing like phone pictures! Once it is finally complete I promise to post real photos. :)

Easter Tables

I can hardly believe Easter is right around the corner!!!  This year Easter and our wedding anniversary happen to fall on the same day so I've been wanting to make sure our traditional Sunday dinner is extra special.  The weather is finally starting to warm up and Spring is in the air so what a better way to bring all that bright cheeriness indoors than by setting a beautiful table for Easter Sunday or for any special occasion really.  One of the easiest ways to brighten up your table scape is by adding fresh flowers.  Nothing is usually more bright or cheery than flowers and somehow they instantly perk up and add sophistication to any decor.  However, you don't always want a giant centerpiece, so an easy (and affordable) way to do it is by adding small arrangement of 3-5 flowers across the table.  Maybe even dust off those egg holders and use them as small vases.  When setting the table don't forget the place cards!  This is also an easy way to get creative and add a special touch to the meal (and if often forgotten).  Place cards can be as simple as a note card, chocolate bunny with a tag, a dyed easter egg or some other small simple item.  Most of all don't be afraid of color and remember that sometimes the simplest items make the best decor.  Here are some images to help you gain inspiration for setting your Easter/Spring table. :)

Green Spot: Dutch Mountain Home

I stumbled upon this article in a news feed that featured an "ultra green" home and felt it deserved its own post.  In all of quirkiness (such as a teacup chandelier in the dining room and the use of recycled trashcans for the legs of the kitchen island) I fell in love with this house.  It is literally nestled into the ground, which helps to keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  A large glass facade is the only visible exterior of the home which helps to warm its concrete shell.  The house was sculpted from the lark wood of the immediate surroundings and produces more energy than it consumes.  The best (or to some possibly the worst) part of all is the beautiful vintage Jaguar bookcase/liquor cabinet.  The homeowner felt it would be a sin to keep his gas guzzling car after building such a sustainable home and that selling it would do more harm to the environment than keeping it; so he got creative. :)  The car was transformed and installed before the roof was completed.  Now it hangs on the wall almost like a trophy.  Could you transform such a prized possession into something completely opposite of its original use?

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Are you going green today?  I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe St. Patrick's day!  Don't forget to wear your green today and also do something "green."  :)

Timeless Trend

Trends in interior design always come and go, but there are a few trends that are timeless.  One of these is tufted upholstery.  I'll admit, I'm a sucker when it comes to tufting!  Can you go overboard with it? Definitely!  Your home does not need to look like puffy marshmallows threw up all over it.  But a piece here and there can add interest and texture to any space.  One thing I love about this timeless trend is that it transcends all styles.  It works perfectly in traditional spaces, contemporary/modern styles or as a transitional piece.  If you are using tufted upholstery in the right way you can't go wrong!  Just remember to use it sparingly.  For example, if you have a tufted sofa in your living room you do not want to have tufted chairs, pillows, and/or ottomans (especially if they sit right next to each other in the space).  If you have a couple of tufted pieces in one room make sure they are spread out and not grouped together.  Here are some of my favorite examples of tufted upholstery:

Sunburst Mirrors

The sunburst mirror is one of the ultimate transitional pieces.  Whether your home is traditional, contemporary, or a mixture of both there is a sunburst mirror for you.  They are the perfect accessory or focal point and make a beautiful statement.  They come in countless shapes, colors, and styles and honestly I don't know if I've ever met a sunburst mirror that I didn't like. :)  So if you don't already have one in your home decor you should definitely think about adding into the mix.  It will work well either in your living, dining, bedroom, or entry way!

Green Spot

I know I just barely did a post on a new product I found but I love this one too AND it falls into the category of green design, so what is there not to love??  Today's green spot is brought to you by NYC's Trove.  They do wallcoverings and window films and they are fabulous!!!  They have so many awesome wallpapers and wood veneer wallcoverings to choose from but they will also do a custom design for you too.  Their wood veneers are by far my favorite! The designs are printed on FSC (Forrest Stewardship Council) certified cloth back birch or bamboo veneers.  They can also be printed on paper back so you can use it on doors or furniture (love it!).  This product can also offer up to 9 LEED points for their wood veneers and up to 7 for the window films!  Can you tell I love this product? :)
