Tangerine Tango or Wythe Blue?
In December Pantone announced tangerine tango as the color of 2012. The bright reddish orange color is supposed to to help energize and and keeps us moving forward in 2012. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, Benjamin Moore announced wythe blue as their paint color of 2012. It is a soothing, relaxing hue that it supposed to provide stability, trust and comfort. So which hue do you feel is more appropriate for 2012 and want to incorporate into your home? Personally I'm feeling the orange and the bright, energetic feel it brings into my home.

Color Blocking Your Interiors
Unless you live under a rock you probably know that color blocking is the big thing this Fall in fashion. And perhaps you have embraced it head on or maybe you're a little like me and are a bit timid about pulling off some of those looks. Whether or not the fashion trend has hit your closet yet maybe it is time for you to throw out those neutrals in your home and add some color back into your life! That's right! It's time to color block your interiors! You can either go full blown color blocking or with just a little paint and throw pillows, you can make a subtle transition that will be easy to change out down the road. Are you nervous yet? Well don't be; here are few tips and tricks to successfully going bold with color. First, to get a more harmonious look choose colors (or tints) that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel (ie. yellow and orange-yellow, or blue and aqua). If you want to go more bold with you color then choose those that are opposite each other on the color wheel (blue and orange or yellow and purple). To keep it easy to choose your color scheme, try to stick with just two or three colors. Next, avoid prints. Solid blocks of color are the trick to successful color blocking. Last, just as in fashion, use neutrals to compliment and balance your color. This way you have a nice balance throughout your space and it makes it a bit easier on the eyes. Although these are just a few tips to help get you going in the right direction, the most important tip to remember is to just have fun, get creative and recover everything yellow and gray in your house and spice things up a bit!

Dressing Your Mantel
Trying to decide on how to dress up your mantel can sometimes be tricky. Do you make it a focal point or keep it simple? Do you use artwork, mirrors, nick-knacks, photos, greenery, etc? Really, the options are endless. My recommendations are to use pieces that have meaning to you, if you are doing a collection use odd amounts (3, 5 or 7), if you are going for a more traditional look use symmetry in your design, for a more modern approach keep it simple and asymmetrical. Also remember that if you use a mirror over your mantel that it is reflecting something that is worth reflecting (really this a just a good rule of thumb anytime you are going to place a mirror. Finally, do not and I repeat DO NOT put your television over your mantel. It is generally not at an appropriate height for watching television and it does not make for a great focal point. Mason Jar Love
Lately I have been looking at all the mason jars sitting on top of my cabinets waiting to filled again with delicious fruits and jams. However, I also look at them thinking of all the fun things I could do with them instead of letting the sit empty for half the year. There are so many fun creative things you can do with a simple mason jar, all of which you can do yourself which is even better! The next best part is most of these ideas you can do fairly inexpensively and who doesn't love a fabulous yet thrifty project to spice up their home! First and for most my favorite thing to do is fill my mason jars with yummy homemade blackberry nectarine jam but then again who doesn't love a nice jar of jam and homemade bread!
